6 Care Tips to Make Your Porcelain Veneers Last Longer...

Posted by , on Nov, 2017

Veneers are typically made of porcelain and used to recreate what a natural tooth looks and feels, says Colgate. If you’ve got missing teeth, then opting for porcelain veneers is a handy solution you might want to consider. Before you go for veneers, though, here are care tips to help them last longer: Brush Regularly One way to make your veneers last longer is to brush your teeth regularly. This is key in keeping your veneer in good condition. Don’t Forget to Floss Flossing is also critical. Buildup of food particles can make for an uncomfortable experience or possibly lead to other dental problems especially if the buildup finds its way into one of your veneers. Steer Clear of Hard Foods You might also want to avoid biting into hard foods that could deal damage to your veneers. That’s one way to stay on the safe side of things. No matter how sturdy your veneers are, a wrong bite could lead to a lot of potential damage. You can avoid that by being careful with the kinds of food you bite into. Slice Your Food Cut them down into bite-sized pieces and use your back teeth for chewing. This reduces any chances of you biting into tough meat that could affect or damage your veneers. Watch Your Diet It would be best to stay away from food and drinks that could easily discolor you veneers. This includes red wine, tea, and soda. You’ll want to stay away from smokes as well. The nicotine in your cigarettes could leave a gray residue on your teeth and veneers, which could make for an unpleasant sight. Use a Mouth Guard If you’re going to play contact sports, be sure to protect your porcelain veneers. Wear a mouth guard or some other form of protection so your veneers will be safe from any possible impact. Be the first to like. Like...

Reasons To Consider Gold Coast Chicago Wisdom Teeth Removal...

Posted by , on Oct, 2017

Teens and adults between the ages of 16 and 25 may experience an eruption of their third molars. In most cases, people rarely have any symptoms, other than normal pain that comes with tooth eruption. In other cases, the tooth cannot come up because there isn’t room, which causes impaction, which means the gum or bone covers the tooth. In these cases, it may be best to consider Gold Coast Chicago wisdom teeth removal. Symptoms/Problems In most cases, you will notice there is a problem before you go to your dentist. You may see blood on the teeth and gums or notice foul-smelling breath. The most common complaint is pain and swelling in the jaw or a feeling that your other teeth are being pushed out. Inflammation and irritation of the gums are also quite common when the third molars are impacted. Why Remove Them Inflammation can hurt, but that’s not the only reason to consider Gold Coast wisdom teeth removal. When the gums are inflamed, it can lead to an infection deep in the gum or bone. Bacteria can also get inside, causing gum disease and other problems. In some cases, the tooth will come all the way or part of the way. However, if your mouth isn’t big enough, those third molars will push everything else together, which leads to overcrowding. Over time, another tooth can be pushed entirely out of place, causing improper bite and other situations. Along with that, the tooth right next to the third molar can be damaged, as well, leading to cavities and bone loss. In some cases, the third molars come in fine but are hard to clean, also leading decay and bacteria formation. Gold Coast Chicago wisdom teeth removal can help alleviate pain and prevent further complications. Visit Chicago Smile Design today to learn more. 1 person likes this post. Like...

What Is A Root Canal?

Posted by , on Oct, 2017

A root canal is a common procedure employed when a tooth is infected or has deep decay. During the procedure, the dentist slowly removes the nerve and the tooth pulp from within the tooth. Once the pulp chamber has been cleaned and sealed, a crown is placed on top. Although the term “root canal” is typically used to describe the procedure, the root canal is actually the natural cavity in the core of the tooth. The tooth pulp chamber contains blood vessels and nerves. A tooth nerve ceases to be important once the tooth emerges from the gum during childhood, after that the only function of the nerve is to sense temperature, a tooth does not need the nerve to function. Why is a root canal procedure necessary? If the tooth pulp is damaged it begins to break down and bacteria cause an infection; the result is an abscessed tooth. Pus forms at the point of the abscess, if this condition is not treated effectively the resulting infection spreads into the gums and other tissue. If left untreated, an abscess can cause bone loss in the area of the tooth root. The pulp and tooth nerves can become infected due to bad decay, large fillings that have been done over time, a crack or chip as well as trauma to the area. Root canal procedure: Before the dentist or endodontist begins the procedure, X-Rays are taken of the affected area. The X-Rays show the dentist the shape of the tooth root, the X-Rays also show if the infection has spread to the surrounding bone or tissue. The area is numbed with a local anesthesia and the procedure begins. Root canals in Chicago require a hole to be opened in the tooth; this allows the dentist access to the pulp chamber. Using very small instruments, the diseased pulp is removed. Once the tooth is cleaned of all infection and debris, the hole is sealed and a temporary filling is placed in the hole. During a subsequent appointment, the temporary filling is removed, the access hole is filled, and in many cases, a crown is placed on the tooth that strengthens it, preventing future problems. Root canals in Chicago are often the only way to save a tooth that is infected. Your Lakeview Dentist Tips for Denture Care

Posted by , on Oct, 2017

If some or all of your permanent teeth have fallen out, then you are probably considering replacing them with dentures in Lakeview. While that is a great thing and will help you in many ways, you need to know the rules of denture care before you walk out of the dentist’s office and are on your own with your new dentures intact. Take Them Out Even dentures need a break every now and then. Take them out before bed and soak them in a solution meant for dentures. In this way, your gums get a break and the dentures do as well. The soaking will help remove stains, plaque and other bacteria that has built up on the dentures during the day. Look After Your Entire Mouth Even if your dentures are completely replacing all of the teeth in your mouth, you still need to take care of your entire mouth as well. This means that you should take out your denture, rinse out your mouth, and then massage your gums with either a soft cloth or a soft toothbrush. Have Regular Checkups Having dentures doesn’t mean that you don’t need to ever see your dentist again. You still need to see him on a regular basis, so he can look for problems with your gums or mouth and make sure that your dentures are still fitting the way they should. These are just three of the top rules you should follow for denture care after you leave the dentist’s office. Remember, you still need to take care of things just like you would with your permanent teeth.
