A disaster preparedness bag, or bug out bag, is something that everyone should have. While there are some people who take this to the extreme and have enough supplies to last them years, this is overkill. Most people just need a simply emergency bag that they can grab and run if the weather takes a sudden turn for the worse or any other emergency situation.
Obviously, the first thing you will need is your bag. Everything else is going to be based around this so choose wisely. A small hiking backpack should be a good choice for your bag. They are light, sturdy, and can hold a lot of gear easily. These are not cheap, but they will easily outlast any cheap bags you may find online.
You hope you will never need them, but if you do you will be glad you have them. Try to get food that is light, full of energy, and will last a long time. Energy bars are a good choice, but avoid the ones with a lot of sugar and opt for the blander flavors. The sugar will cause them to spoil faster.
Light is something you will definitely want to have. A solar flashlight is one of the best options since it does not rely on batteries. With a solar flashlight, you simply leave it out in the sun, and it will charge itself. This means no worrying about having your batteries die when you need them most or, worse, have them corrode inside of your flashlight and destroy it.
You should also plan to carry some other small items such as a lighter, a good quality knife, bandages, and a thermal blanket just to be safe. If you are in a disaster situation and having nothing else to keep you warm, you will be thankful that you brought a lighter and thermal blanket.Add to favorites
