How Do Invisalign Aligners Work?

In the past when you wanted to straighten your teeth or fix a malocclusion the only solution available were braces. This is no longer the case, since 2000 a revolutionary new concept known as New York Invisalign has been available. Invisalign uses a series of clear, comfortable aligners that fit over the teeth somewhat like a sports mouth guard. Every couple of weeks you will exchange aligners. Each aligner is a little different from one another, as you progress through the series; they all slowly move your teeth into the position that was originally set by your dentist.

Invisalign vs. braces:

Teeth are moved by forces that are slowly applied in the desired direction. In the case of braces the force is “pull” due to the arch wires, in the case of Invisalign the force is “push.” Invisalign work well, in many cases they work better than braces as they come into contact with the teeth in their entirety while braces are fitted to the front of the tooth only.

When braces are used to straighten teeth it is the flex of the wire as it tries to return to its unstressed position that creates the force that moves the teeth. New York Invisalign moves the teeth using the flex of the plastic which encompass the teeth. The entire concept of Invisalign is actually quite simple, every aligner moves the teeth in the desired direction, once it has succeeded; the next aligner is used. This goes on until the teeth are perfectly aligned.

Benefits:

There are a number of real benefits associated with New York Invisalign. First, they are extremely comfortable, they are made from a smooth plastic; there are no sharp corners that can abrade the inside of the mouth.

As Invisalign can be taken out, it is easy to brush and floss. Unfortunately, if the braces wearer does not go to great extremes to keep his or her teeth perfectly clean and free of debris, this can cause decay.

And last, but by far least; they are virtually impossible. You can wear them without any embarrassment whatsoever.
