Perhaps you have a big date and want to impress that special someone, or maybe you simply want to buy a nice bottle of wine to go with that big meal. The problem is, you know absolutely nothing about buying wine. While this could be a problem for some, this won’t be a problem for you, because when you head into a Wine Store, you’re going to be prepared.
Believe it or not, buying wine doesn’t have to be a scary proposition that only the rich can do well. Even a commoner such as yourself can do it, and do it well. Just go prepared with the following tips.
* As a first timer, you’re probably going to want to spend at least $20 on a bottle of wine. That’s not to say you can’t find good wine for cheaper, but only the true connoisseurs can differentiate the good from the bad at the lower prices. Additionally, in the beginning, you don’t want to spend the big bucks for a bottle of wine when you don’t know that much about what makes one bottle that much better than another.
* Avoid the specials. Just because there’s a special of two bottles of wine for one price on sale, doesn’t make it a good buy. Go for the wine that’s a little more expensive rather than the one that’s on sale tonight.
* Alternate regions make great wines. While most people know of Bordeaux, you could find Lalande-de-Pomerol instead, a wine made nearby from the same Merlot grape. Other countries to try wine from include Australia and Chile.
* Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Any good Wine Store worth its salt is happy to help you. Tell them what the purpose of your wine purchase is, such as a gift or the type of dinner you’re planning it to go with. Then, stand back and let them do what they do best. Yes, occasionally, you’ll get the pushy sales person, but most of the time, you’ll get a ton of great advice.
The best advice is doesn’t wait until the last minute to buy your wine. Try a wine tasting class at some of the small local stores in your area and go with what you, personally like. Check out Townecellarswines.com for some great wine once you know what you would like to buy!
