Where to Go Camping in Miami Beach

by | Dec 12, 2022 | Business

Despite the conveniences and luxuries that Miami hotels provide, sometimes the best vacation is one that gets you down to the essentials. The ultimate pleasure of camping in Miami Beach is turning off your gadgets and getting off the grid, whether you want to sleep under the stars or in a tent.

Additionally, it’s not entirely basic. The variety of camping options in and around Miami include sand dunes off of the city’s beaches, bucolic settings scattered with teepees and cabins, riverfront grassy areas you can only access by kayak, and rustic settings with teepees and cabins.

Larry and Penny Thompson Campground

This urban sanctuary is adjacent to Zoo Miami and close to the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. With 270 acres of natural forests, it is extremely large and perfect for horseback riding, running, bicycling, and spending the night. Each of the 240 distinct RV campsites has full electricity and water hookups, and there are also spaces dedicated to tent camping.

Everglades National Park

Camping in Miami Beach is not limited strictly to the Miami area; sometimes, you will find the best beach camping by traveling a little further out. Although the vast mangrove forest of south Florida is sometimes compared to a slowly flowing river, there is plenty of dry ground for anyone who wants to spend the night. Two drive-in campsites, Long Pine Key and Flamingo, are accessible from the park’s Homestead entry for those using tents or RVs. There is also backcountry camping available, but you must request a permit.
