Are you interested in learning more about cosmetic dentistry? You’ve come to the right place. In this guide, we’ll explore the different types of cosmetic dentistry and what to expect.
Types of Cosmetic Dentistry
• Teeth whitening. One of the easiest and least expensive ways to improve your teeth. Teeth whitening involves either bleaching your teeth with in-office products at your dentist’s office or purchasing a mold and gels from your dentist for at-home treatment.
• Dental veneers. Dental veneers are super thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored resin that cover the front surface of your teeth. Veneers are bonded or cemented to the front of the teeth to change their color, size, and shape.
• Dental bonding. This process involves applying a tooth-colored putty-like resin to your tooth, and bonding the material to the tooth with an ultraviolet or laser light, then trimming, shaping, and polishing it. Bonding often fixes decayed, chipped, or misshapen teeth.
• Dental crown. Also known as a cap, a dental crown fits over and replaces a decayed or damaged tooth to restore its former shape, size, and appearance. Crowns keep weak teeth from breaking, and hold cracked teeth together.
• Inlays and onlays. Also known as indirect fillings, inlays and onlays are made of gold or porcelain and fill decayed and damaged teeth. These dental fillings are called inlays when the material is bonded in the center of the tooth, and onlays when the filling covers the biting surface.
• Dental implants. Implants are titanium replacement tooth roots that are inserted into the bone socket of a missing tooth. The jawbone then heals and grows around the implant, providing a foundation for a replacement tooth.
