Invisalign: The Clear-Cut Option for Adult Braces

Orthodontics is the dental practice of straightening the alignment and occlusion of teeth using braces. In the greatest majority of cases orthodontics is carried out while the patient is in his or her teen years, the youngsters may not necessarily like a “metal mouth” but they learn to deal with it for the couple of years that it takes to give them perfect teeth. Of course, adults can also have their teeth straightened using traditional metal braces but many adults find them to be too intrusive for their work or social environment. This is no longer a problem, as there are now different options available, one of the most popular in Chicago being Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is virtually an invisible way to straighten and align teeth, they are gaining in popularity, there are close to 3 million patients who swear by this method. Their popularity has a great deal to do, of course, with the fact that they are next to impossible to detect and they can easily be removed for cleaning.

Invisalign aligners slowly reposition your teeth. Every couple of weeks, you use another aligner that causes the teeth to move a little more. This process goes on for perhaps a year when your teeth have been repositioned as desired by your dentist. They are very different from traditional metal braces insofar as they can easily be removed which is ideal when the wearer wishes to eat, brush and floss or attend a social function. As it is the aligner that is changed, there are no wires to be tightened as it is in the case with braces.

The treatment process:

Once the dentist has determined that you are a good candidate for Invisalign in Chicago, he or she takes a series of X-Rays, photographs and dental impressions—all of which are used by the dentist to create a three dimensional image. From this image the dentist decides the treatment plan, determining the desired results, the number of unique Invisalign aligners that will be needed and a forecast of the length of time it will take for the entire treatment.

No two cases are ever alike of course, but on average the entire treatment takes about a year. During this time, you will wear custom made aligners which are produced from a very comfortable, smooth plastic that will not irritate your cheeks or gums which is often the case with metal braces. You change to a new aligner every couple of weeks, your teeth slowly shift their position and because Invisalign in Chicago are virtually invisible you are the only one that knows your wearing them.

If you are unhappy with the alignment of your teeth but do not want to suffer the possible embarrassment of wearing metal braces, then Invisalign in Chicago is the best possible alternative. To discuss this treatment in detail you are invited to make an appointment with Dental Magic.
